Domestic Violence creates unseen and profound ripple effects.
My name is Joseph Alban, and my mother was a victim of domestic violence.
My life was forever altered by an act of domestic violence that occurred more than 30 years before my birth.
When my mother was 22, she was shot in the back by a jealous ex-boyfriend while sleeping. Then, he turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger.
Somehow, he survived his self-inflicted wound and fully recovered.
Unfortunately, my mother was not so lucky, as she was left permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
Domestic violence is a taboo subject that is so repugnant that nobody wants to discuss it. Silencing open discussions of domestic violence hurts victims and their loved ones into feeling greater shame and guilt.
To counter this, I’ve shared my own story and collected success stories of success and triumph you can read and reflect upon.
